A Painting Workshop with Hamish Herd

Join us for a truly special hands-on painting workshop led by acclaimed artist Hamish Herd, set in the serene surroundings of our Summer House Art Gallery. In this immersive experience, Hamish will guide you through the creation of the breathtaking painting shown.
—a luminous, dreamlike forest path bathed in golden light and surrounded by a flurry of wildflowers.
Over the course of the session, you’ll learn how to bring this magical landscape to life using Hamish’s signature techniques—layering, light play, and expressive brushwork. He’ll walk you through the painting step by step, making it accessible and enjoyable for all skill levels, from complete beginners to seasoned creatives.
🎨 All materials and supplies are provided – just bring your curiosity and a willingness to explore your artistic side.
Not to mention the lovely Coffee that will be available too!☕️

A Pastel Workshop with Bethlyn Herd
📍 Summer House Art Gallery
Ready to unlock your creativity and fall in love with pastels? This workshop will help you explore the beautiful, versatile world of soft pastels—whether you’re picking them up for the first time or you’re an experienced artist seeking fresh inspiration.
What You’ll Learn
With step-by-step guidance, you’ll discover how to:
🎨 Compose your own piece using the elements provided
🎨Blend soft, dreamy backgrounds
🎨 Layer colours to build depth and vibrancy
🎨 Create textures that make your work pop
🎨 Use clever artist’s tricks to achieve crisp, professional-looking details
By the end of the session, you’ll have your very own version of Bethlyn’s delightful ‘Birds before the Dawn Chorus’ —a project that’s both charming and fun to recreate. The best part? You’re encouraged to add your own creative twist, making it a truly personal piece. Composing your very own piece using the elements provided eg. using one, two or three different UK birds in your artwork.
You’ll also have the option to purchase a mount for your artwork at a small extra cost—but no pressure, it’s entirely up to you.
🌿 Please bring your own materials, as we know that soft pastels can be a little pricey depending on your kit. Some materials will be provided. See the full list of supplies you’ll need by clicking the button below.

Step into a snowy wonderland and create your very own Christmas card design, inspired by the quiet beauty of British wildlife in winter. From foxes and robins to deer and hedgehogs, you’ll capture the magic of these frosty moments with your own whimsical artistic twist.
What You’ll Learn
With Bethlyn’s warm, step-by-step guidance, you’ll discover how to:
🎨 Sketch and compose charming wildlife scenes with a wintry feel
🎨 Blend and layer colours to create soft, snowy textures and cozy seasonal tones
🎨 Add delicate details that make your creatures come to life
🎨 Play with light and shadow to capture the stillness of a winter’s day
🎨 Personalise your design so it feels truly yours
By the end of the session, you’ll have your original artwork to take home and Bethlyn will turn your design into 10 professionally printed Christmas cards with envelopes, ready to share your winter magic with family and friends.
